POWERSLAM* FRESH MARKET CABBAGE

OUTSTANDING QUALITIES

  • INTERMEDIATE RESISTANCE TO BLACK ROT
  • VERY UNIFORM
  • VARIETY PERFECTLY SUITED TO SUMMER GROWING CONDITIONS
  • GOOD FIELD HOLDING ABILITY

Powerslam* is a new addition to the Sakata range, specifically selected for African production conditions.  It has excellent resistance to Black rot infection, caused by the pathogen Xanthomonas Campestris pv.campestris.  Since summer rainfall regions are the ones most prone to Black rot infection, Powerslam* is ideally suited to the summer growing season.  It has a vigorous, upright growing habit with the head set deep within the frame.  The big frame protects the heads very well against sunburn and wind damage.  Powerslam* matures between 72 and 85 days from transplant.

SPECIAL VARIETAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Harvesting should be completed by September to avoid bolting
  • Grandslam is suited to January and February sowings in the Highveld. In the South Western Cape, excellent yields can be obtained with summer sowings
  • December sowings should be restricted to areas where late summer Black rot is unlikely to occur
  • Contact area representative for a sowing guide – very important for this variety
