Sakata is very excited to launch a brand new long shelf life (LSL) sweet melon, called Majestic, that can take the market by storm! Majestic is an Eastern Shipper sweet melon with excellent internal quality and very long shelf life. The flesh texture is very firm, and it has consistently high Brix levels of between 13 – 15%.
The flesh is a deep salmon orange colour, and it has a very small seed cavity. The taste of the fruit has been proven to be superior compared to standard LSL varieties. The fruit are very uniform and attractive, with an average weight ranging from 1.8 to 2.5kg. Majestic is widely adapted for warm season productions, and it is well adapted to regions all across South Africa. The plants are vigorous, creating a good canopy to protect the fruit from the sun.
The variety also has a brilliant netting ability, even in the cooler seasons. Majestic has good disease resistance, with high resistance against Fusarium as well as Powdery Mildew, ensuring that the plants stay healthy and strong throughout the growing season.
