SV7735 ICEBERG LETTUCE

Jun 27, 2023 | General

Iceberg lettuce types are the most widely consumed lettuce type in South Africa. One of the more common misperceptions about lettuce is that the crop is not as taxing on the soil. The crop could be perceived as being less taxing because it is such a fast vegetable crop, but don’t make the mistake of thinking that lettuce falls into the “light feeder” category when it comes to crop rotation planning. Lettuce is more over considered to be a “moderate to heavy feeder”, meaning it requires added fertilizer and nutrients to thrive.

It is also a crop that is very sensitive to seasonal demands, and therefore great care should be taken with regards to cultivar selection for your specific slot. 𝗦𝗩 𝟳𝟳𝟯𝟱 is a variety that is used for summer production, but has shown excellent adaptability in most areas to the shoulder periods (autumn and spring). It is perfectly suited to the processing as well as pre-pack market, because of its shape, internal quality and layering.
