Sierra Nevada F1 Hybrid Watermelon Shines in Clanwilliam, Western Cape

Feb 15, 2025 | General

Johan Roos of Manchester Farms in Clanwilliam, Western Cape, has seen exceptional results with one of Sakata’s latest watermelon varieties, Sierra Nevada F1 Hybrid. This triploid (seedless) Crimson Sweet-type watermelon delivers impressive yield potential, making it a valuable choice for commercial growers.

Sierra Nevada stands out with its deep red, firm flesh and small pip size—ideal for both fresh consumption and the fresh-cut market. The variety boasts excellent field-holding ability and extended shipping potential, ensuring premium quality from harvest to market. Its dark Crimson Sweet rind pattern enhances its visual appeal, while its high resistance to Fusarium races 0 and 1 (Fon: 0,1) provides added reliability in the field.
