Sakata Seed Southern Africa participated in the annual KALRO Expo held at the KALRO Seeds headquarters in Thika, Kenya, on 12 – 13 March 2026. The vibrant event, officially opened by the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Hon. Senator Mutahi Kagwe, alongside KALRO Chairman Dr. Thuo Mathenge, marked an important milestone in showcasing products distributed by Amiran Kenya.
The Expo attracted hundreds of small- and large-scale farmers, as well as students from across the region. Exhibitors displayed a wide range of crop varieties demonstrating yield potential and overall performance.
Our team showcased a colourful and well-managed assortment of crops at both the KALRO trials site and the dedicated demo plot for the Expo. Featured varieties included F1 hybrid saladette tomatoes Zara, Emerald, 1386-Hera and Buena Vista; F1 hybrid butternuts Pluto, Barbara and Quantum; F1 hybrid pumpkins Sampson; F1 hybrid cabbage Powerslam; and F1 hybrid collard Top Bunch.
The KALRO trials plot further included Collard Top Bunch F1, bulb onions, Cabbage Powerslam F1, courgettes, cucumber, and additional crop varieties.
At the close of the event, Sakata was honoured with a trophy for the Best Display Plot/Booth and received a certificate of participation.
Sakata celebrates the success of this year’s KALRO Expo and the valuable engagement it fostered with farmers, students and industry stakeholders. The event provided an excellent platform to demonstrate the performance of our high-quality F1 hybrid varieties and to strengthen partnerships within the agricultural community. We extend our sincere appreciation to KALRO, Amiran Kenya, and all event organizers for their exceptional planning and commitment to advancing agricultural innovation.
