New butternut Titan* – living up to its name

Sakata is very excited about their latest butternut, Titan* that has been released the past season.  With higher yields and larger fruit, Titan* is an improvement on the well-known butternut, Atlas.   Extensive trial work has paid off and Titan* has already been approved by some of the leading processors!  Titan* has an excellent yield potential, bearing very large (2 to 3 kg in summer), uniform fruit.  The fruit has an elongated neck and a very small seed cavity that makes it an excellent choice for processing. The internal quality and flavour of this variety is excellent.  Because this variety is still in its experimental stage, Sakata unfortunately has very little seed available.  But as they say, good things come to those who wait …
