Sakata Seed joined forces with Riverside Nursery and P&A Seedlings to take part in a Farmers workshop at Tshipise a Forever Resort. Our Sakata team traveled 1028 kilometers over 2 days to present at this workshop and to educate and interact with the farmers in the area. The workshop was quite unique due to the fact that the farmers were from Venda and each presentation needed to be translated from English to Venda.
Dineo Modika and Lehlogonolo Maesela, both Sakata employees, educated the farmers on the basic production guidelines ranging from Hybrids vs OP’s, variety selection, and market requirements.
Two of Sakata’s product specialists also attended – Lizindi van der Walt, Brassica and leaf crops specialist and Johan Stronkhorst, Solanaceae and sweetcorn specialist. Both presented on disease management and on the different varieties in their respective fields.
The workshop ended on a positive note, with a member of the Department of Agriculture gave some words of encouragement to the farmers and indicated how important even small farming communities are in society.
