Sakata’s international research facility, based in Lanseria, Gauteng, subsidiary of leading horticultural seed company, Sakata Seed Corporation, has recently celebrated 100 years of “Passion in Seed”.

The Company seeks a Farm Manager, that will be based in Gauteng, Lanseria. You will be responsible for planning and management of all activities related to the Lanseria trial site as well as the growing and maintenance of healthy plants in support of Sakata Research and Development, Product Development, Seed Production and Quality Assurance programmes on site.

Responsibilities

  • Management of employees – Breeding, Seed Production and Product Development
  • Planning – Seasonal Planning, Monthly and Weekly planning
  • Management of all site activities
  • Crop Management and Crop Production
  • Budgeting – OPEX and CAPEX
  • Project Management of CAPEX
  • Management of irrigation systems – Hydroponic System (Irrigation scheduling)
  • Management of all fertilisation – Setting up of fertilisation programmes
  • Management of Soil Health on station
  • Set up Pest control programmes
  • Purchasing of supplies and submitting purchase orders to the Financial Department
  • Supplier negotiation
  • Ensure all farm activities comply to GSPP
  • Ensure Training is completed for all employees on GSPP and ISO requirements
  • Performance management of Farm Assist and Team Leaders

 

 

Specific Requirements

  • Minimum requirement National Diploma in Agriculture or similar
  • +7 years’ experience in Commercial Farm Operation
  • Irrigation Experience – Priva Irrigation experience will be to your advantage 
  • Pest, Disease and Nutrition Knowledge
  • GSPP (Good Seed and Plant Practices) Knowledge will be to your advantage
  • Strong analytical skills
