Akamaru is a medium maturing short day brown onion hybrid. Akamaru produces firm, uniform, globe to high globe shaped bulbs with a golden brown scale leaf.   Akamaru’s bulbs have medium to thin necks and small root plates. Akamaru is widely adapted and is slow to bolt/good bolting tolerance.  Akamaru has a strong root system which contributes to a high resistance against Pink Root/Pt (Phoma terrestris syn. Pyrenochaeta terrestris) and Basal rot/Foc (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cepae).  Akamaru is suitable for direct sowing, transplants and set production.
